Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We like to meet clients at the residence or job site. Meeting face to face lends to a more personal experience. We always work with a letter of agreement before starting any project. We usually draw room layouts or elevations to the specific project. Trips up to San Francisco Design Center for furnishings and fabrics are often made once a week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went to school at the American College In Paris and fell in love with Architecture and design. I follwed my studies up here locally at Monterey Peninsula College. My Mother was a designer locally for 40 years and I interned with her every year before being hired by her firm 17 years ago.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Prices vary depending on consultation or designing.
Consultation fees are $175.00 an hr.
Design fees are $150 an hr.
How did you get started in this business?
Interning with my mother"s firm during high school and then later when she was deisgning the Lodge at Pebble Beach and needed more help.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with clients with Mulitple homes here and in Europe, to local clients with smaller remodels. I have also worked for some small Boutique hotels as well.
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
I have just completed a new construction project in the Preserve. Three year project that we got to work with Architect, builder, lighting designer and great crew. Clients were a joy to work for and the whole project was a designers dream.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
My advice would be to hire early to avoid mistakes and returns. I try to encourage clients to buy well made furnishings locally made in the USA, and those products will last much longer and are better quality.Understanding value and avoiding trends.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Client's should have a basic concept on the direction the projects needs, such as contemporary or traditional. What areas of the project are the main focus and budget.Letting a designer know how you live on a day to day basis, pets, children, entertaining...etc. We like to know colors and things you like or dislike.I like my clients to have magazine photos of things they like so I can better understand their design needs and direct them in the right direction.
